Kildee Announces $45,000 for Tuscola Small Business

Grant to Help Incubate New and Existing Enterprises

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Tuscola County would receive a rural enterprise grant in the amount of $45,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture. The grant award will be used to help fund the Energizing Tuscola’s Economy Through Entrepreneurship project, which assists in the development of new and existing enterprises.

“Small business has become one of the bright spots of an otherwise uncertain economy. This program has been greatly successful in Tuscola County, and the expectation of continued results has brought more federal money to aid our emerging entrepreneurs,” said Kildee.

In a January 29, 2008, letter of support for the grant, Kildee applauded the enterprise facilitation program calling it a “highly personalized approach to community and economic development.”

Tuscola County’s enterprise facilitation project, in cooperation with the Sirolli Institute, focuses on working on-on-one with promising entrepreneurs and existing businesses and offers technical assistance to help incubate small businesses. The project is expected to create at least 25 new jobs each year.

Kildee wrote also in favor of a $30,000 grant received last June by the Energizing Tuscola’s Economy Through Entrepreneurship project.
