WASHINGTON - Approximately 50 students and chaperones from Handy Middle School of Bay City, MI, along with 235 students and chaperones from Linden Middle School of Linden, MI, met with Congressman Dale E. Kildee in the U.S. Capitol in Washington. Congressman Kildee provided the students with a unique opportunity to visit the chambers of the U.S. House of Representatives before joining them to take a photograph in the Capitol’s famed Statuary Hall.
During the schools’ visit with Congressman Kildee, all of the students had a chance to ask the Congressman questions about his congressional responsibilities and his positions on policy. Congressman Kildee was also able to explain the legislative process by demonstrating voting procedures on the House floor. The visit provided the students a rare opportunity to visit the House floor.
“These types of educational programs help increase awareness and political participation in our government”, said Kildee. “By participating in this trip these students have a great opportunity to witness the political process in action.”
As a former teacher, Congressman Kildee was delighted to meet and discuss the legislative process with these students. As a ranking member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Congressman Kildee continues to support programs that emphasize civic education. |
