FLINT – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced the winners of the 25^th Annual Congressional Arts Competition, An Artistic Discovery, in a ceremony at his Flint District Office on Tuesday night.  Kildee praised the talent and artistic prowess of our local artists and announced that the first-place entry would be displayed for a full year in the U.S. Capitol.  The winners of the 2006 competition from Michigan’s 5^th Congressional District are:

Miss Amanda King of Linden – Sunset at Clover (1^st Place Winner)

Miss Anastassia Fulmer of Grand Blanc – Daffodil. 

Mr. Jonathan Roberts of Bay City – A Muse’s Way of Showing the Way. 

Mr. Kevin Atkinson of Bay City – A Vision for Unity

Miss Jazmine Clark of Grand Blanc – Woliorb

Miss Jenna Lanzon of Fenton – Parrot, Puffins

Ms. King’s Sunset at Clover will be displayed in the hallway of the U.S. Capitol for one year along with pieces from students from all over America.  The hall of artwork is viewed by Members of Congress, their staff, and thousands of visitors touring the Capitol every week.

“I’m so proud of all the students of the 5^th Congressional District who entered this year’s competition,” Congressman Kildee said. “The creativity and imagination of our local students will be on full display in my Michigan offices and in Washington.  It will be an honor to have Miss King’s entry hang alongside the artwork of students from all over America this year.  Members of Congress and visitors from all over the world will view this exhibit and will get to see the brilliant work of our nation’s finest young artists.”

Celebrating its 25^th Anniversary in 2006, An Artistic Discovery is an annual competition held in each of the 435 Congressional Districts, created to highlight the importance of art education by recognizing outstanding talented young artists across America.   

The 2006 competition finalists will have their pieces will be displayed by rotating them throughout Congressman Kildee’s district offices listed below.  All pieces will be displayed on Congressman Kildee’s website.
