WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Beecher Business District would receive $100,000 in federal funding for streetscape improvements in a bill that passed the House of Representatives today. Funding for the streetscape was included at Kildee’s personal request in the House Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2007. North Saginaw Street, home to many businesses in Beecher, will receive the funding as past of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Economic Development Initiative (EDI).
“I am pleased I was able to secure this funding for the Beecher Business District so that we can continue to beautify the areas were we work, shop and play,” said Kildee. “These improvements will enhance North Saginaw Street and make the business district a safe and visually appealing area to residents and visitors.”
The Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission will receive $100,000 for streetscape improvements as part of EDI. The facade improvements will improve the look of businesses and signs along North Saginaw Street in Beecher. 67 businesses located along this stretch known as the Beecher Business District provide vital services to surround neighborhoods in Mt. Morris and Genesee Townships.
The Senate will take up their version of the FY07 Transportation-Treasury-HUD bill later this summer.
