Kildee Secures Funding for Michigan Military Museum and Health Delivery, Inc.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that two Saginaw-area organizations would receive federal funding as part of a House of Representatives Appropriations bill set to pass the House early next week. At Congressman Kildee’s personal request, the Michigan’s Own Military and Space Museum in Frankenmuth will receive $200,000, and Health Delivery, Inc. of Saginaw will receive $175,000 as part of the House Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2007.  The bill passed the House Appropriations Committee last week and will be voted on by the full House the week of June 26.

“I am pleased I was able to secure this funding for both these projects,” said Kildee.  “The Michigan’s Own Military and Space Museum serves as a constant reminder of the cost and sacrifice many of our own in the state of Michigan have paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.  I am also proud to secure funding for Health Delivery, Inc and the services their community health centers provide, because they represent the only access to health care for many residents in my district.  This funding will help save lives and protect public health by providing quality medical care to those residents that do not have sufficient health insurance.”

The $200,000 Kildee secured for Michigan’s Own Military and Space Museum will go towards historic preservation, display of collections and for operating expenses.  The Museum’s mission is to preserve, for the public benefit and for the education of future generations, the history and individual sacrifice of the men and women from Michigan who served their country in the Armed Services.

To reach out to schools and other organizations, the Museum operates a mobile unit with portable displays of important military history.  The Museum maintains a database of the records, service, awards and military history of thousands of Michigan and United States citizens who served our nation.  The funds Kildee secured will help preserve the very impressive collection housed in the Museum such as uniforms, medals, awards and many other valuable artifacts.

Health Delivery, Inc. will receive $175,000 for renovations of the David R. Gamez Community Health Center in Saginaw.  The expanded Center expects to offer comprehensive primary care to 7,200 patients while providing 17,600 medical visits when at full capacity.  These additional patients and visits will add to the 29,598 medical and 16,937 dental patients and 154,112 visits provided by Health Delivery at 15 other service sites in 14 mid-Michigan Counties last year.  This phase of renovations will add space for additional primary care access, outreach, mental health services, electronic medical records, health education, and administrative support.

“We are extremely thankful for Congressman Kildee's support,” said David R. Gamez, President and CEO of Health Delivery, Inc.  “This funding will provide us the opportunity to enhance the quality of our patients care.  Our patients are very grateful for this support.”

The mission of Health Delivery, Inc. is to provide high quality health care to individuals and community groups in Saginaw, Bay and other nearby counties.  Services are provided without regard to race, beliefs, or ability to pay.  Health Delivery, Inc. currently operates two dental centers and four medical centers as well as mobile dental and medical services and migrant and seasonal farmworker clinics.
