Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded $32,400 to Genesee Charter Township Central Fire Department. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Fire Administration awarded these funds to the Genesee Charter Township Fire Department under the 2003 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety.
“We must continue to increase awareness about fire safety and preparedness in order to prevent fires from destroying people’s homes and businesses as well as save lives” said Kildee. “These funds will help our local fire department keep Genesee Charter Township and nearby community’s residents safe by educating them about important fire prevention and detection methods.”
The Genesee Charter Township Fire Department was selected to receive a federal grant in order to help fund fire prevention and safety programs and activities. The competitive grant was awarded to the Genesee Charter Township Fire Department after a national peer review process was conducted involving over 300 fire service leaders who evaluated and scored each application.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as an opportunity for the U.S. Congress to work with Federal Emergency Management Agency to enhance basic fire service delivery across the country. |
