Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Labor awarded a $3 million grant to the Delphi Corporation to train 1,500 engineers in the most advanced technologies available. The $3 million dollar grant will be administered over the course of the next three years.
“This funding will allow the Delphi Corporation to remain globally competitive by ensuring that their engineers remain the most highly skilled and best trained workforce,” said Kildee. “The Delphi Corporation will be able to successfully meet the challenges of future technological advancements by providing engineers with access to the most sophisticated training available.”
A total of 1,500 engineers located at Delphi facilities in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, New York and Alabama will participate in the project. Approximately half of those engineers are located in Michigan. The training will primarily focus on statistical engineering, advanced manufacturing, innovation, robust design techniques, quantitative analysis and data based decision-making.
This project will be coordinated and administered by three key partners: the Saginaw/Midland/Bay Counties Michigan Works Workforce Development Board, the Delphi Corporation and Delta College. The Workforce Development Board is the grant applicant and will provide grant coordination among the partners and with the U.S. Department of Labor. Delta College will act as the grant administrator and will submit required financial and progress reports, monitor project activities, disseminate project information and coordinate One Step Center resources. The Delphi Corporation will provide the students, a Project Director who schedules training activities; monitor and coordinate grant actions within Delphi, and interface with the workforce board. Delphi will also support the project with matching funds for facilities and employee wages during training. |
