WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Bay County and Flint will receive a total of $9,264,109 in funding for their transportation systems. This funding was secured in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which passed the House of Representatives on February 13, 2009 with Congressman Kildee’s strong support. This legislation became law on February 17, 2009.
“Public transportation provides a critical service for families in our communities. Many people depend upon it for their daily commute, to travel throughout our region and to access local facilities and services. This funding will help ensure that our public transit systems are well maintained and efficiently run so that our families can rely on safe, affordable and dependable public transportation for years to come,” said Congressman Kildee.
The transportation funding is as follows:
$1,279,109 for the Bay Metropolitan Transportation Authority: This funding will go towards low floor diesel fueled buses and vans, renovation of parking areas and necessary equipment.
$7,985,000 for the Flint Mass Transportation Authority: This funding will go towards new communications and security equipment as well as preventive maintenance.
