Kildee Announces $410,540 Grant for Mott Community College

WASHINGTON Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Mott Community College (MCC) in Flint would receive grants totaling $410,540 over a five year period for Mott Middle College High School, a program within the campus of MCC that provides students both high school and college-level technical education and career placement services.  The U.S. Department of Education awarded this grant under its Tech-Prep Demonstration Program, which links secondary and postsecondary technical career programs in one location.

It is vital that students have both the academic and technical skills that will enable them to pursue higher levels of education and reach their full potential,” said Kildee.  “Mott continues to be a leader in providing a high-quality postsecondary education to thousands of students in the Flint area, and this program will enable students who want access to that education to complete their high school coursework and transition into a career-oriented postsecondary education.”

Mott Middle College High School is a 14 year old partnership between Mott Community College, the Genesee Intermediate School District and all public school districts in Genesee County.  Students benefiting from this funding will participate in one of five high-growth career opportunity programs and will receive at least two years of secondary education before graduation with at least two years of postsecondary education, in a series of courses leading the student to an associate's degree and to high-skill, high-wage employment or further education.  Career guidance services, provided by high school and college professionals, will be accessible to students throughout the program.
