Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Human Development Commission in Tuscola County would receive a $705,688 grant to fund the Early Head Start Program. The Office of Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the grant to the Human Development Commission to provide assistance to low-income children and their families.
“As a member of Congress who has led numerous efforts to reform, expand and increase funding for the federal Head Start Program, I am delighted to announce the $705,688 grant award for Early Head Start in Tuscola County,” said Kildee. “This grant will provide the Human Development Commission with the funds necessary to expand its efforts to foster healthy growth and development of young children.”
The Early Head Start Program provides an invaluable service to teen parents and low-income families by providing their children with a healthy environment conducive to learning. The program primarily focuses on the early development of literary and socialization skills by encouraging mothers to participate in the program with their children. The Early Head Start Program was specifically designed to serve eligible children and families during pre-natal stages through age three. In Tuscola County, the program has been an enormous benefit to hundreds of families by providing family support and child development assistance. This grant will enable the Human Development Commission to expand its Early Head Start Program by providing more children with an opportunity to learn and grow in a healthy environment. |
