| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Hamilton Family Health Centers, Inc. has been awarded a $100,000 service expansion grant to continue funding for the mental health services program. Kildee’s formal grant request was instrumental in helping to secure these funds. The Health Resources and Service Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded this grant to Hamilton Family Health Centers in order to provide patients with better access to mental health services.
“The services provided by the Hamilton Family Health Centers are irreplaceable because they often provide the only access to health care for many residents in my district,” said Kildee. “This grant will effectively help save lives and protect public health by providing quality medical care to those residents that do not have sufficient health insurance.”
The Hamilton Community Health Network requested federal funding to provide mental health services at the new Burton Health Center, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of this summer. The South Flint/Burton area was recently designated as medically underserved and ill equipped to provide quality health care to the residents in the area.
Community health centers serve all people regardless of their ability to pay and target their services in areas where people face barriers to accessing high quality, competent care. The primary objective of these community health centers is to provide quality health care services to those people without health insurance or with inadequate coverage. Through extensive partnerships with local providers, hospitals, and managed care organizations, health centers build local systems of care that increase residents’ access to health services. |
