WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Mott Community College will soon receive $190,000 in federal funding to benefit the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Early Stage Prototyping Lab. Congressman Kildee secured this funding in the FY2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill. “This important project at Mott Community College is playing a key role in bringing the next generation of technology to our businesses and neighborhoods,” said Congressman Kildee. “Not only does this center support existing businesses and entrepreneurial development, but it helps spur job growth in our communities. I am proud to have secured this funding and I will continue to support this important initiative for our community.”
Michael Kelly, Executive Director of Public Information at Mott said: “Mott Community College is taking a lead role in rebuilding the economic base of our region as we make the transition from traditional manufacturing to a new competitive and innovative economy. This funding for our innovative Center for Advanced Manufacturing will bring advanced technology tools and practices to regional businesses, establishing a resource to support entrepreneurship and innovation. Mott College is pleased to be in partnership with the federal government and appreciates the work done by our federal legislators, particularly Senator Carl Levin, Senator Debbie Stabenow and Congressman Dale Kildee, to draw needed resources to our community.”
The Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) seeks to introduce regional businesses to advanced technology tools and practices that streamline and optimize the product development process. It also creates a regional resource to support entrepreneurship and innovation. The CAM model provides support to both existing companies and individuals with ideas to promote a stronger, more competitive manufacturing community and to support job creation through existing companies and new business start-ups. |
