Kildee Announces $948,000 Grant for Early Head Start Program

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Carman School District in Flint would receive a $947,846 grant to fund the Carmain-Ainsworth Early Head Start Program.  The Office for Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, awarded the grant to the Carman School District to provide assistance to low-income children and their families.

“This grant provides the Carmain-Ainsworth Community Early Head Start Program with the funds necessary to expand its efforts to foster healthy growth and development of young children,” said Kildee.  “This program will give more children the chance they need to learn and grow in a healthy environment.”

The Early Head Start Program provides an invaluable service to teen parents and low-income families by providing their children with a healthy environment conducive to learning.  The program was specifically designed to serve eligible children and families during pre-natal stages through age three.  In Flint, the Early Head Start Program has been an enormous success because they have developed a partnership with the Job Corps Center.  This partnership has been instrumental in providing support and empowering families toward their goal of self-sufficiency through the learning of job skills, which enables them to pursue better employment opportunities.
