Kildee Announces $210,971 for Center Academy Library

WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Center Academy in Flint will receive a $210,971 grant to bring new books and media resources to the school’s library.  The United States Department of Education awarded this grant to Center Academy as part of its Literacy & School Libraries Program for fiscal year 2007.

“This funding will help Center Academy students enrich their knowledge, enhance their creativity and improve their skills,” Kildee said.  “By developing a passion for reading and exploring all the media resources libraries have to offer, children will be able to explore their own creativity and imagination.”

Center Academy serves 375 students in grades K through 8.  The school will use this funding to acquire new books and media, as well as hire a certified media library specialist to work with teachers, administrators, schools and parents to use the additional books and media to enhance the learning opportunities for Center Academy students.  Center Academy will also expand the hours of operation for its library to accommodate greater access.
