Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee announced today that the Federal Transit Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has authorized the release of $491,839 of the FY 2003 Transportation Appropriations earmark for Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS).
“This funding will ensure that residents in Saginaw will have access to the best public transportation available,” said Kildee. “A reliable public transportation system is vital to the economic prosperity and public safety of our area because it provides area residents with better access to facilities and services throughout the district.”
The $491,839 earmark will allow STARS to purchase up to 2 thirty-five foot replacement buses. The replacement vehicles will provide area residents with a safe, reliable and affordable alternative to individual passenger vehicles. These new buses will help alleviate congestion and increase traffic safety by encouraging commuters to take public transportation. The Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services currently has a fleet of 39 buses to service residents in Saginaw County. |
