WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) has secured $500,000 for the Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS), Bus and Bus Facilities Project. The funding was secured in H.R. 3288, the Department of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives last night by a vote of 256 to 168. The bill now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.
“I am very pleased that the House of Representatives has approved this important request for Saginaw. Public transportation provides an important service to our community, and many families rely on our bus system to access services and facilities on a daily basis. This funding will help ensure that our communities can continue to depend on reliable, public transportation for years to come,” said Congressman Kildee.
Listed below are the details of the project in Saginaw that received funding at the request of Congressman Kildee:
$500,000 for the Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS), Bus and Bus Facilities Project: Funding is for the vehicle replacement program for 47 out of 58 revenue vehicles, which have surpassed their FTA useful lives of 7-10 years. Funds will also be used for the renovation of STARS’ aging Rosa Parks Operations Center; the purchase of automated fare boxes for STARS’ revenue vehicle fleet of buses; and equipment replacement programs including the vehicle wash system and the garage exhaust extraction system. • Since FY 2004, Congressman Kildee has secured $2,180,000 for STARS.
