Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) today announced that the City of Flint would receive $5.6 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants. The grants will aid in expanding access to affordable housing and will help improve emergency shelters.
“The Community Development Block Grants are an excellent tool for communities to utilize to inspire new growth. They give localities the flexibility to use funding in a manner in which they can achieve the greatest advantage,” said Kildee.
Following are the three HUD grants released for the City of Flint:
· $4.2 million is provided by the Community Development Block Grants program which aids in the development of viable urban communities through funding quality housing projects and better living environments for low- and moderate- income.
· The HOME program provides $1.2 million in funds to expand the supply of safe and decent affordable housing to low- and very low- income families.
· The Emergency Shelter Grants program provides $190,218 to improve quality and access to emergency shelters and to address the requirements of those who are homeless.
