Kildee Announces Over $1.6 Million in Stimulus Funding to Add Police Officers to Flint and Mott Community College
Funding will allow Flint and Mott Community College to add 9 officers for 3 years

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) joined with Vice President Joseph Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder to announce $1,613,201 in federal stimulus funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the City of Flint and Mott Community College. These grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) through the agency’s COPS Hiring Recovery Program. The City of Flint will receive $1,446,800 to hire eight officers and Mott Community College will receive $166,401 to add one additional officer.

“This is wonderful news for the Flint community,” said Congressman Kildee. “This funding will allow Flint and Mott Community College to employ more police officers, putting people to work while keeping our neighborhoods safer. I am proud to have supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and I look forward to all the good this funding will do for our communities.”

The grants will cover the salary and benefits of the officers for three years and police departments will then be required to retain the positions for a fourth year.
