WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) joined with Vice President Joseph Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder to announce $1,126,710 in federal stimulus funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the Saginaw Police Department. These grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) through the agency’s COPS Hiring Recovery Program. The Saginaw Police Department will be able to add five officers as a result of this funding.
“This is wonderful news for Saginaw,” said Congressman Kildee. “This funding will allow Saginaw to employ more police officers, putting people to work while keeping our neighborhoods safer. I am proud to have supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and I look forward to all the good this funding will do for our communities.”
The grants will cover the salary and benefits of the officers for three years and the police department will then be required to retain the positions for a fourth year. |
