| Congressman Kildee Announces Paxton Myers as New Advisor on Native American Affairs | ||||
| Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), Democratic Chairman of the House Native American Caucus, announced that Paxton Myers will join his staff as Advisor on Native American Affairs. In this capacity, Myers will advise those Members of Congress who are involved in Native American Affairs as well as coordinate with tribal leaders and organizations from across the country. “I am pleased to announce Paxton Myers as my new Advisor on Native American Affairs. His extensive experience working with native communities and governments will make him a valuable asset to the Native American community. I look forward to working with him as we continue our important work advocating for the needs and rights of our Native American population,” said Congressman Kildee. Myers said, “It will be an honor to work for Congressman Kildee, who was the founder of the Native American Caucus in 1997. The caucus has done tremendous work to advance the self-governance and self-sufficiency of American Indians tribes. There still remain significant challenges for our tribal communities; however, I want to thank Congressman Kildee for giving me an opportunity to work with him to try to overcome these challenges. It is truly an honor.” Myers has spent the past decade working for American Indian tribal government and tribal organizations and is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff to the Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Michell Hicks. Myers is replacing Kimberly Teehee, who was appointed to the White House Domestic Policy Council as Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs. He will join Congressman Kildee’s office on September 15th. |
