| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Hamilton Community Health Network has been awarded a $383,333 expansion grant to support a new delivery site for comprehensive primary and preventative health care services to the uninsured and underserved population in South Flint/Burton area of Genesee County. The Health Resources and Service Administration’s Bureau of Primary Health Care, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded this grant to Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) in order to provide patients with better access to health care services.
“It is imperative that we work together to improve and expand access to quality health care for all Americans,” said Kildee. “This grant will ultimately help eliminate health disparities in the South Flint/Burton area by providing quality medical care to those residents that do not have sufficient health insurance.”
After two years of extensive planning, the Genesee County Health Department and the HCHN decided to build a new facility to provide quality health care to the residents in the area. The South Flint/Burton Health Center will provide all primary care, emergency, preventative and restorative dental care, as well as mental health care and substance abuse services in collaboration with the Genesee County Community Mental Health Agency. The center anticipates serving approximately 11,200 medically indigent individual at full capacity at the new site.
Community health centers serve all people regardless of their ability to pay and target their services in areas where people face barriers to accessing high quality, competent care. The primary objective of these community health centers is to provide quality health care services to those people without health insurance or with inadequate coverage. Through extensive partnerships with local providers, hospitals, and managed care organizations, health centers build local systems of care that increase residents’ access to health services. |
