Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee announced today that the Federal Transit Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has authorized the release of $583,438, which represents the remaining balance of the
FY 2004 Transportation Appropriations earmark for Flint Mass Transportation Authority. Earlier this year, Kildee secured a $2.5 million earmark for Flint MTA to purchase new and replacement vehicles under the 2004 Transportation Appropriations Conference Report, which was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill. A few weeks ago, Kildee announced the release of the first portion of this transportation earmark in the amount of $1,843,746.
“I am delighted that another portion of the funds that I helped secure are going to be released to help the Flint MTA purchase new vehicles,” said Kildee. “The new vehicles will help expand service and provide area residents with a reliable and dependable public transportation system. By providing more efficient and reliable services, the public’s faith and use of Flint MTA services will continue to grow.”
In January 2004, Kildee’s funding requests were included in the federal Transportation Appropriations legislation for fiscal year 2004, which was approved by Congress and signed into law. The Flint MTA will use these newly released funds towards the purchase of 5 forty-five foot vehicles, 5 forty foot vehicles, 10 thirty-five foot vehicles, 3 twenty-five foot vehicles, 10 passenger vans for curb-to-curb service. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Transportation authorized the release of $557,584 of an earmark that Kildee helped secure for the Flint MTA’s popular Job Access Reverse Commute Program. |
