Kildee Announces Release of $1.9 Million to Flint MTA for Downtown Transit Center Rehabilitation

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee announced the Flint Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) would receive a $1,901,805 grant to rehabilitate and modernize its Downtown Flint Transfer Center.  The U.S. Department of Transportation authorized the release as part of its fiscal year 2005 Transportation Appropriations discretionary grant money.  Flint MTA plans to begin improvements to the center in spring of 2006.

“The Downtown Transit Center is vital to the economic prosperity and public safety of our area because it provides area residents with better access to facilities and services throughout the district,” said Kildee. “These improvements will tie in to the revitalization of downtown Flint and ensure that area residents will continue to have access to the best public transportation available.”

The Flint MTA Downtown Transit Center is the major hub for Flint MTA, providing passengers access to all thirteen primary routes.  The center is being refurbished to provide passengers more information about events going on in the community as well as to accommodate a Rosa Parks Museum.  Over the years, the Flint MTA has expanded into a regional provider by improving the quality and accessibility of the services available to residents traveling inside and outside Genesee County.
