Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) today released the following statement in reaction to the Congressional testimony of General David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker:
“I voted against going to war in Iraq in 2002 and, earlier this year, I voted against the surge of 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq. The perceived military success of the surge is irrelevant without significant political progress by the Iraqi government toward national reconciliation. The Iraqi national government must assume greater responsibility for stabilizing Iraq, and the international community must step forward to provide more support for those efforts toward stabilization.
The U.S. cannot, and should not do it alone.”
