Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Genesee Intermediate School District would receive a $500,000 grant over the next two years under the Emergency Response Plans for School Safety Initiative Program. The U.S. Department of Education awarded the grant to the GISD to improve school safety by developing better emergency response and crisis management plans. Kildee contacted the U.S. Department of Education in support of this grant application.
“This grant provides the Genesee Intermediate School District with the funds necessary to expand its efforts to ensure the safety and security of our schools,” said Kildee. “The Genesee Intermediate School District has already established itself as a leader in helping schools create safer learning environments. We must continue to provide them with the necessary resources and services so that our children can continue to grow and learn in a safe environment.”
The Emergency Response and Crisis Management Program provides local educational agencies with funds to improve and strengthen emergency response and crisis management plans. These funds are used to train school personnel, students and parents in emergency response procedures and to coordinate activities with local government, law enforcement, public safety, and mental health agencies. The Genesee Intermediate School District will now be able to ensure the safety of their students by working with staff, students, parents and community partners to mitigate and prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. |
