Kildee Welcomes Federal Direct Loans for

American Auto Makers

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Dale E. Kildee (D-Flint) welcomed the decision by the Congressional Leadership to use the continuing resolution to provide $25 billion in direct loans from the federal government to auto makers to help them retool their American production facilities to produce cleaner, greener, and more fuel efficient automobiles and trucks.  The loan program was authorized in Section 136 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 adopted last December.

Kildee, co-chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus, said, “This is good news for the auto industry and great news for Michigan.  The auto industry plays a vital role in the entire American economy.  The materials and components that make up a car or truck come from virtually every part of our country.  I am pleased that the Congressional Leadership understands that America’s manufacturing base depends on a healthy, vibrant auto industry.”
