| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Genesee Intermediate School District would receive a $372,753 grant under the Carol M. White Physical Education Program. The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, a division of the U.S. Department of Education, awarded the grant to Genesee Intermediate School District to expand existing physical education programs by providing funding for new equipment and to help train teachers about physical education activities.
“It is imperative that we emphasize the importance of physical education by providing students with access to a balanced and sensible fitness regimen,” said Kildee. “This funding will help students develop healthy habits by providing them with new equipment and support to encourage them to actively participate in physical education activities.”
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program was specifically designed to initiate, expand and improve physical education programs for K-12 students in order to help them make progress toward meeting state standards for physical education. The grants were awarded to local education agencies and community-based organizations that support innovative approaches to health and physical activity that will equip students with knowledge to be healthy and physically active for a lifetime.
As the ranking Democratic Member on the Subcommittee on Education Reform, Congressman Kildee is a leading advocate for programs that emphasize child nutrition and physical education. During his tenure, Congressman Kildee has worked hard to protect and expand existing programs that focus on improving the health of students. As a former teacher, Congressman Kildee also recognizes the importance of physical education and understands the positive impact it has on academic performance. |
