Kildee Announces $591,614 in HUD Funding

WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that two housing counseling agencies located in Flint would receive a total of $591,614 in federal funds to provide assistance to homebuyers, homeowners and renters.  The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $563,805 to the Mission of Peace Housing Counseling Agency and $27,809 to the Greater Eastside Community Association.

“This funding will not only provide residents with better access to housing counseling, but it will also help expand ownership and improve the quality of housing in Flint,” said Kildee.  “By investing in our families and neighborhoods, we will ultimately improve the standard of living and the quality of public services available to low-income families.”

The Housing Counseling Program supports the delivery of a wide variety of housing counseling services to homebuyers, homeowners, low- to moderate-income renters, and the homeless.  The primary objectives of the program are to expand homeownership opportunities and improve access to affordable housing.  Counselors provide guidance and advice to help families and individuals improve their housing conditions and meet the responsibilities of tenancy and homeownership.
