| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Flint Institute of Fine Art has been selected to receive a Save America’s Treasures grant in the amount of $300,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Save America’s Treasures grant was awarded to the Flint Institute of Fine Art to preserve and protect their artwork collection from damage caused by improper storage.
“This grant will help ensure that our irreplaceable artwork collection will be preserved and protected for future generations to enjoy,” said Kildee. “It is imperative that we continue to provide funding to preserve our cultural heritage before irreversible damage is done to our precious collection.”
The Flint Institute of Fine Art will use the $300,000 grant to construct a new, climate-controlled and secure vault. The Institute has a valuable collection of artwork representing America’s artistic movements from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Over the years, individual works of art have sustained damage and others are still threatened by an inadequate art storage vault.
The Save America’s Treasures grant program was designed to help preserve and conserve nationally significant collections, documents, statues and works of art, including intellectual and cultural artifacts. The program is administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities, Institute of Museum and Library Services and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. |
