Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Bay Medical Center has been awarded a $54,116 federal grant to finance the Drug-Free Communities Support Program. The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the grant to the Bay Medical Center to strengthen community anti-drug coalitions aimed at preventing the use of illegal drugs among youth.
“The Drug-Free Communities Support Program was specifically designed to help communities stem the tide of illegal drugs and drug-related crime in our neighborhoods,” said Kildee. “In order to win the war against drugs, we must continue to support anti-drug coalitions by providing them with the necessary resources and tools to help eradicate the usage of illegal drugs by young members of our community.”
The Bay Regional Medical Center will administer the Drug-Free Communities Support Program under the guidance of the Bay County Prevention Network/Neighborhood Resource Center. The main objective of this program is to reduce substance abuse among youth and strengthen community anti-drug coalitions. The Bay Regional Medical Center will use these funds to organize anti-drug programs by coordinating prevention and intervention activities within the community. In order to solidify the structure of the anti-drug network, the Bay Regional Medical Center plans to secure additional community and government participation while also working to obtain regular local financial support. |
