Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Genesee/Shiawassee Workforce Development Board has been awarded a $750,000 federal grant to develop customized employment services. The Office of Disability Employment Police, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, awarded the grant to the Genesee/Shiawassee Workforce Development Board to provide employment assistance to people with disabilities.
“This grant will create more job opportunities for people with disabilities by providing them with access to a network of employment services,” said Kildee. “The One-Stop Centers open a wide variety of job opportunities to people who are typically ignored or passed over because of their disabilities.”
The purpose of Office of Disability Employment Policy Customized Employment grant program is to support Local Workforce Investment Boards in a consortium or partnership of public and private entities, to build the capacity of local One-Stop Centers. These centers provide customized employment services to people with disabilities who may not now be regularly targeted for services by the One-Stop Center system. |
