WASHINGTON – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the United States Department of Justice has awarded federal funding to a number of 5th District law-enforcement agencies to help them purchase bulletproof vests for their personnel. The Office of Justice Programs, a division of the U.S. Department of Justice, awarded these funds as part of its Fiscal Year 2006 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program.
“Funding from this grant program helps ensure the safety of our law enforcement officers on the beat," said Kildee. "Police officers risk their lives every day and deserve the tools they need to make our streets and homes safer.”
The Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program funds up to 50 percent of the cost of the vest purchased by local law-enforcement jurisdictions. Communities with populations under 100,000 receive priority funding through this program.
