Kildee Earns Perfect Legislative Score from League of Conservation Voters

WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) received a perfect 100% score from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for his outstanding commitment to the preservation and protection of the environment during the second session of the 109th Congress.  The League of Conservation Voters’ 2006 National Environmental Scorecard evaluated the environmental voting records of every member of Congress during this legislative session to determine which legislators are dedicated to environmental protection.

“It is truly an honor to receive recognition from the League of Conservation Voters for my lifelong commitment to environmental protection,” said Kildee.  “My voting record on environmental issues reflects my strong commitment to preserving and protecting the health of our natural environment so that future generations will be able enjoy our natural resources and environmental splendor.”

As a senior member of the Resources Committee, Congressman Kildee has continually demonstrated his commitment by supporting the full funding of conservation programs that help preserve and protect our nation’s precious natural resources.  Among the votes LCV scored in 2006 were votes against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, against taxpayer-subsidized road-building for logging companies, and against expanded offshore oil drilling on environmentally-sensitive coastlines.

The League of Conservation Voters is a bipartisan organization devoted to educating citizens about the environmental voting records of federally elected officials.  The National Environmental Scorecard rated Members of Congress for each of the two sessions of the 109th Congress.  Their most recent rating graded members on 12 House votes pertaining to environmental health and safety protection, resource conservation, and spending for environmental programs.  Kildee scored an 89% in the first session of the 109th Congress and has averaged a 91% approval rating since 1999.

LCV has published a National Environmental Scorecard each Congress since 1970.   The 2006 scorecard can be found at www.lcv.org.
