Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Mott Community College would receive a federal grant for $398,936 to fund the Community Outreach Partnerships Center Program. The Office of University Partnerships (OUP), a division of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, awarded this grant to Mott Community College to support revitalization efforts in the area.
“The Community Outreach Partnerships Center at Mott Community College plays a critical role in addressing and solving the socioeconomic problems that continue to confront our community,” said Kildee. “These funds will enable Mott Community College to pursue initiatives designed to revitalize our area by working directly with the community to respond to complex problems.”
In 1994, HUD established the Office of University Partnerships (OUP) to encourage institutions of higher education to rebuild communities by working with area residents to develop creative solutions to complex socioeconomic problems. Under HUD’s Office of University Partnerships, the Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) Program provides 3-year grants of up to $400,000 to encourage institutions of higher education to join in partnerships with their communities. Community Outreach Partnership Centers play an active and visible role in community revitalization by reducing unemployment, poverty, crime, homelessness and discrimination. |
