Kildee Commends AirTran for Joining “Operation Hero Miles”

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that AirTran Airways would participate in the “Operation Hero Miles” Program.  Kildee helped unveil the new program last month, which allows frequent fliers to donate their miles to help troops returning from Iraq.  AirTran will now allow their A-Plus Rewards members to donate flight credits to the program through December 31, 2004.  Congressman Kildee was instrumental in persuading AirTran to join the program.

“I am delighted that AirTran has decided to participate in this wonderful program to help our troops return home just in time for the holidays,” said Kildee.  “By participating in this program, AirTran will help our troops maximize their time with their family and provide them with a chance to relax and rest in the comfort of their own homes.  I encourage every A-Plus Rewards members to generously donate flight credits to help reunite our troops with their families.”

AirTran will also contribute 8,000 flight credits, which is equivalent to 500 roundtrip tickets to the program.  U.S. military personnel returning home will be able to use the donated flight credits to travel from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport or Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport to any destination AirTran flies.  A-Plus Rewards members wishing to donate flight credits can do so electronically by logging onto their A-Plus Rewards account and clicking on “my rewards”.  Rewards members are then instructed to click on “request rewards” and then “Military Leave Credit Donation”, where they can indicate the number of credits they wish to donate.

The “Operation Hero Miles” program was specifically developed to help alleviate the costs associated with making last minute travel arrangements.  This program provides people with an opportunity to help American troops travel home to be with their families.  Several airline companies have also decided to participate in the program by donating additional miles and making it easier for their frequent fliers to transfer their miles.  Frequent fliers interested in participating in this program are encouraged to visit Congressman Kildee’s website at www.house.gov/kildee.  There is a direct link to the “Operation Hero Miles” Program on the bottom of Congressman Kildee’s homepage.
