Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Bay City would receive $5,204,000 in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, which recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Kildee worked with Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow to secure $350,000 of the $5.2 million earmark for the Bay City State Theatre in the final Veterans Affairs-Housing and Urban Development Appropriations conference report. $2.85 million of the Kildee earmark will be used to dredge the Saginaw River. Kildee originally requested these funds from the House Appropriations Committee for long-term improvements to Bay City.
“Bay City will be able to use these funds to facilitate the smooth transfer of goods along the Saginaw River and for the historic preservation of downtown,” said Kildee. “We must continue to secure funding for dredging and observation projects because the Saginaw River remains a vital component of our local economy. I will continue to work with Senator Levin and Senator Stabenow to bring more federal money back to the 5th Congressional District of Michigan.”
