Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced that the three Flint, MI post offices that were in danger of being shuttered have been taken off the closure list. Congressman Kildee and his staff, particularly Tiffany Flynn, have fought tirelessly to protect these stations and the communities that rely on them. In November, representatives of the U.S. Postal Service Great Lakes Area Office in Chicago visited Flint at Congressman Kildee’s request and met with his staff to discuss the closures. The Congressman has also sent numerous letters to the USPS on behalf of the Flint offices, requesting that they remain open. These actions led to the announcement that the offices are now safe from closure, a decision that Congressman Kildee praised as a victory for the community.
“Customers in Flint were poised to lose their Downtown, Northside and Mott Park Stations, causing inconvenience and lack of continuity of service for our communities. I am extremely happy and proud to announce that my staff and I have saved these stations from closure,” said Congressman Kildee. “Our communities can be assured that they will continue to have the quality and convenient mail service to which they have been accustomed. The continued presence of these stations will particularly impact our businesses, which rely on reliable, local mail service for the ongoing development of our downtown area. I am extremely proud of the work of my staff, particularly Tiffany Flynn, whose hard work and dogged determination helped save these post offices.”
The Post Offices that were scheduled for closure were the Downtown, Northside and Mott Park Stations. These stations will now remain open.
