Kildee Commends Northwest Airlines for Joining

“Operation Hero Miles”

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Northwest Airlines has decided to participate in the “Operation Hero Miles” Program.  Kildee helped unveil the new program in October, which allows frequent fliers to donate their miles to help troops returning from Iraq.  Northwest Airlines will now allow their WorldPerks members to donate frequent flier miles through Northwest’s AirCares program.  Last month, Congressman Kildee contacted the President of Northwest Airlines to encourage the airline to participate in the Operation Hero Miles Program.

“I am delighted that Northwest has decided to participate in this wonderful program to help our troops return home just in time for the holiday season,” said Kildee.  “I look forward to being one of the first WorldPerks members to donate a significant amount of miles to the Operation Hero Miles Program.  I encourage every WorldPerks member to generously donate flight miles to help reunite our troops with their families.”

Northwest Airlines will allow WorldPerks members to donate flight miles through their AirCares Program, which enables members to donate miles to a number of charities.

U.S. military personnel returning home will be able to use the donated flight credits to travel from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport or Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport to any destination Northwest Airlines flies.  WorldPerks members wishing to donate miles can do so by calling 1-800-327-2881 with their WorldPerks account number and PIN to make a donation by phone.  Donations begin with a minimum donation of 5,000 miles.

The “Operation Hero Miles” program was specifically developed to help alleviate the costs associated with making last minute travel arrangements.  This program provides people with an opportunity to help American troops travel home to be with their families.  Several airline companies have also decided to participate in the program by donating additional miles and making it easier for their frequent fliers to transfer their miles.  Frequent fliers interested in participating in this program are encouraged to visit Congressman Kildee’s website at www.house.gov/kildee.  There is a direct link to the “Operation Hero Miles” Program on the bottom of Congressman Kildee’s homepage.
