Washington, D.C- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Saginaw Housing Commission received an $83,161 federal grant to improve access to public housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded this grant to the Saginaw Housing Commission to help families achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency.
“By providing low-income families with better access to affordable housing we will be able to help build a safer community and create more job opportunities,” said Kildee. “This funding will improve the standard of living for low-income families and the quality of public services available to all low-income residents living in Saginaw.”
The $83,161 federal grant will be used to pay the salaries of Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program coordinators and FSS homeownership coordinators for the Housing Choice Voucher FSS program. The FSS program coordinator ensures that participants are linked to the supportive services to achieve self-sufficiency, while the FSS homeownership coordinator helps FSS families move towards homeownership.
The Family Self Sufficiency program is intended to promote the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the Housing Choice Voucher programs with public and private resources to enable participating families to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. |
