| Washington, D.C.-Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) received the highest rating (100%) from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights for his outstanding commitment to the protection of civil rights and liberties. The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights recently compiled a legislative scorecard for the 107th Congress, which evaluates the voting records of every member of Congress.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive the highest rating from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights,” said Kildee. “My voting record on civil rights reflects my strong commitment to protecting equality and human dignity. I have dedicated my legislative career to fighting for equality and equity for every American regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.”
The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) was founded in 1950 to promote the enactment and enforcement of effective civil rights legislation and policy. The Leadership Conference is the nation's premier civil rights coalition, and it has coordinated the national legislative campaign on behalf of every major civil rights law since 1957. The LCCR consists of more than 180 national organizations, representing persons of color, women, children, labor unions, individuals with disabilities, older Americans, major religious groups, gays and lesbians and civil liberties and human rights groups.
The 107th Congressional Scorecard represents the percentage of votes where Members of Congress supported the Leadership Conference’s position. During the 107th Congress, the scorecard tracked House members on 12 key votes covering a broad range of issues, including the proposed bankruptcy overhaul, education, faith-based initiative, the budget resolution, tax cuts, racial profiling, immigration, election reform, welfare reauthorization, and labor rights.
