Congressman Conyers Welcomes Participants to the 2003 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee and Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, released the following statement today welcoming visitors to the 2003 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference:

“I would like to extend a warm welcome to all presenters, participants, and visitors, especially those from Michigan, to this year’s Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference. We convene once again to draw attention to the various struggles and barriers which African-Americans face in society and celebrate our triumphs.  This year, against the backdrop of 40th Anniversary the March on Washington, we find ourselves as a society once again at an important cross-roads in our history.  A great deal of progress has been made in the last four decades, however, we cannot become complacent with those victories. We must press on for even greater change for the future of our community.”

“ I encourage everyone to attend as many public Forums and Braintrusts as possible, the following are those which I am hosting or co-hosting.”
