(St. Louis, MO)- New York Congressman Joseph Crowley will join Missouri Congressman Russ Carnahan Friday in St. Louis, for the release of an area security analysis that illustrates glaring needs in the face of deep cuts for first responders. Congressman Carnahan a member of the International Relations Subcommittee on Terrorism sits with Congressman Crowley on the full International Relations Committee.
Commission reports following both 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina proved our lack of ability to predict, prevent, respond to, and mitigate the loss of life and property from a terrorist attack or natural disaster. Local analysis in St. Louis indicates a need to improve readiness in five main categories: Federal Support For Local First Responders, Seal The Holes In Port Security, Improve Transportation Security, Protect Critical Infrastructure, and Facilitate Federal, State, and Local Cooperation.
NOTE TO PRODUCERS / EDITORS: Chief Deputy Whip Crowley (D-NY) was the only member of Congress to lose a relative in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks when his first cousin, a New York firefighter, perished in the World Trade Center. Crowley proposed legislation that was signed into law to posthumously award the Medal of Valor, the highest ranking civilian honor, to firefighters and police officers slain in the 9/11 attacks. In addition, Congressman Crowley put together a 120-page report on securing New York City, many of the recommendations from which became law.
