Emerson Again Opposes Corps’ Spring Rise – May 18, 2009
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today restated her opposition to the release of water into the upper Missouri River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to ensure a suitable mating habitat for the pallid sturgeon.“I have serious concerns with any action that puts the comfort of fish above the livelihoods of the Missourians who live and work alongside the river. Many of our towns will see crests above dangerous river stages in the next two weeks. This action carries a definite risk for flooding, which is why I oppose the artificial spring rise year after year,” Emerson said.
