Rehberg Lays Out Principles for Federal Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today laid out four principles he believes must be the cornerstones for the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year and beyond. The U.S. House is expected to vote on final passage of a budget proposal later this week. Rehberg’s four principles are listed below:

Secure Jobs – “Congress must not only protect existing jobs, but also facilitate the creation of new ones. And it's important to understand that the government doesn't create jobs, people and small businesses do.”

Control Spending – “Americans are willing to tighten their belts, and Congress needs to do the same. We’ve got to stop recklessly borrowing against our children’s and grand children’s future.”

Honest Presentation – “We can’t afford secret slush funds or cleverly dishonest statistics designed to make proposals look better than they actually are. Let’s be up front and honest with our priorities and their consequences.”

Fairness to Rural America – “The challenges in rural states are different and so are the solutions. In our efforts to fix urban problems we cannot afford to overlook the needs of rural states like Montana.”

“We need a budget that leads us out of the recession and helps small businesses create careers not just temporary jobs,” said Rehberg a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “This budget must reflect Montana’s values of individual and public responsibility, and I’m ready to work with anyone that’s willing to sit down to hammer our workable solutions to move our country forward.”
