McIntyre Announces Winners of 7th District Arts Competition |

Washington, D.C. - U.S Congressman Mike McIntyre is pleased to announce the first-place and second-place winners for the 2009 7th Congressional District Art Competition which recently took place. Makenzie McMillan, a senior at Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville took first place with her oil on canvas submission, titled “Sunflowers.” Makenzie’s artwork will hang on public display in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. Christina Martinez, a sophomore at Fairmont High School in Fairmont, took second place. Christina’s artwork will hang in Congressman McIntyre’s Washington, DC office for an entire year. Congressman McIntyre stated, “I am delighted that the creative talent of southeastern North Carolina’s young artists will be so well represented here in Washington, DC! Art education in our district is alive and well, and continues to play an important role in building vibrant communities, celebrating our culture, and giving our citizens outlets to express themselves and their points of view.” |
