Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that Carolina Beach Inlet has received $200,000 for operation and maintenance dredging of the inlet. The dredging activities will help keep this vital navigation channel open and safe for both recreational and commercial users. Congressman McIntyre stated, “Our coastal communities continue to be blessed during this holiday season! With this $200,000 for Carolina Beach Inlet, our coastal communities have received $15,600,000 for vital water infrastructure projects. This money helps keep our waterways open and navigable and our beaches wide and healthy.” McIntyre, Co-Chairman of the Congressional Waterways Caucus, continued, “Dredging funds are critical for the continued success of our marine economy. Fishing boats, commercial vessels, and recreational boaters all depend on shallow draft inlets to provide safe access from the open ocean to the calm waters of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. This is a great day for Carolina Beach! ” This funding was received as part of the recently enacted Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009. |
