Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that legislation he introduced to honor our nation’s coaches has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman McIntyre stated, “This week’s vote has ushered in a new chapter of national service and recognizes a group of dedicated volunteers who are often overlooked – America’s coaches. As Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports, I was pleased to introduce and promote passage of this bill, which officially establishes a full week where players, parents, and officials have the chance to recognize the major contributions that coaches have made and continue to make to the lives of our nation’s youth. “ Coaches, at every level of sports from youth sports to high school to college and professional, have a long-lasting and profound impact on athletes by teaching them the importance of sportsmanship, fairness, civility, teamwork, loyalty, respect, and discipline. House Resolution 6 recognizes the week of September 13-19th as National Coaches Appreciation Week and recognizes a vital part of our country’s culture and thanks the many dedicated volunteer coaches for their time and commitment. |
