Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre announced today that $10, 947,000 in federal funds will be coming to coastal projects and coastal communities in Southeastern North Carolina. These are funds appropriated by Congress from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Congressman McIntyre stated, “These funds will help our economy by investing in the coast that produces jobs and revenue, and stands as the economic backbone of Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. Investing in these critical projects will help with tourism and public safety, as well as protect our environment, and our future. This is a great day for the coast of North Carolina!” These funds that will be used by the Army Corps of Engineers include: •ハ $4,000,000 for work on Cape Fear Lock and Dam #1; •ハ $3,000,000 for the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway; •ハ $800,000 for dredging of New Topsail Inlet, New Topsail Creek and Banks Channel; •ハ $747,000 for repairs at Cape Fear Locks and Dams #1-3 – road work, restroom renovation and boat ramp repairs; •ハ $630,000 for dredging of Carolina Beach Inlet; •ハ $600,000 for dredging of Lockwoods Folly Inlet; •ハ $570,000 for disposal material from Lockwoods Folly Inlet; •ハ $500,000 for dredging in the vicinity of Cape Fear lock structures to ensure lock operation is unhibited; and •ハ $100,000 for disposal island improvements for Shallotte River.
