Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that the Bladen County and Columbus County School districts have received $4,319,641 to enhance the early language, literacy, and pre-reading development of pre-school age children from low-income families. Congressman McIntyre stated, “This is a wonderful day for the Bladen and Columbus County schools and the young leaders of tomorrow. Preparing the youngest of students with reading skills will help them as they proceed through their school years. This is a positive example of our taxpayer dollars working for us and our future, and I commend all who have worked to make this dream become a reality.” These federal funds, appropriated by the U.S. Congress and obligated by the U.S. Department of Education, will allow Bladen and Columbus and to implement their CORE (Communities Organizing for Reading Excellence) program. CORE will provide high-risk students in two poverty stricken school districts with enhanced learning opportunities. CORE will serve 293 students in 2 centers. |
