Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre will be hosting the Seventh Annual 7th Congressional District Youth Summit on Monday, March 9, 2009, at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Center in Lumberton. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 12:00 p.m. Congressman McIntyre stated, “Young people are the future of our great country, yet this population is rarely given a forum in which to discuss issues that they feel are important. This Youth Summit will provide students with the opportunity to voice their opinions and give input on the issues that our leaders are faced with every day.” Students from Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, Robeson and Sampson counties will be attending. McIntyre invited high schools throughout the Seventh Congressional District to nominate one junior to represent their school at this summit. The purpose of this endeavor is to provide students with a forum to discuss issues affecting youth (along with their solutions and innovative approaches) and ways to improve their communities and the nation. Highlights of McIntyre’s Youth Summit include:
Congressman McIntyre is founder and Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports, Co-Chairman of the Task Force on Fatherhood, is a member of the Congressional Children’s Caucus and has received both the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service and an Honorary Lifetime membership in the North Carolina PTA because of his work with youth and school children. |
